چکیده

This paper introduces a system in which the face recognition is carried out with the help of the local feature descriptors. As today face recognition is a very active area of research, a system which carries out the robust face recognition is needed to be developed. Face recognition is used in various fields of security and access control, surveillance military etc. here the system is developed in which face recognition is done under varying illumination (lighting) conditions. Local directional number pattern (LDN) is the descriptor which is used here to extract the features from the face image. The LDN produces the compact code which extracts the useful features of the face. The face image is divided into several regions and then for each region LDN is computed and then the histogram of each region is taken for the sake of comparison. Then all the histograms are concatenated to form a feature vector. The LDN thus perform the best under the varying illumination conditions for the correct face recognition. KeywordsFace recognition, Gabor filter, LBP (Local Binary Pattern), feature extraction, FRM (Face recognition method).

Implementation of a New Methodology to Reduce the Effects of Changes of Illumination in Face Recognition-based Authentication

In this paper, the study of the effects of illumination changes in the process of face recognition is discussed. Additionally, a new methodology that integrates Single-Scale Retinex (SSR) and Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) is presented. The proposed methodology addresses the problem of illumination changes in face recognition-based authentication systems. To do this, the SSR transform...

A Thamizharasi and J S Jayasudha: an Illumination Invariant Face Recognition by Enhanced Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram

Face recognition system is gaining more importance in social networks and surveillance. The face recognition task is complex due to the variations in illumination, expression, occlusion, aging and pose. The illumination variations in image are due to changes in lighting conditions, poor illumination, low contrast or increased brightness. The variations in illumination adversely affect the quali...

An Illumination Invariant Face Recognition Approach Using Exemplar-Based Synthesis Technique

This paper proposes a new method to solve the problem of face recognition under varying illumination conditions. We introduce an exemplar-based technique to decouple and subsequently recover the canonical face and the illumination functions from the intensity images. The canonical image is equivalent to the reflectance field of the face that is invariant to illumination. We subsequently use the...

Face Recognition Across Pose and Illumination

The last decade has seen automatic face recognition evolve from small scale research systems to a wide range of commercial products. Driven by the FERET face database and evaluation protocol, the currently best commercial systems achieve verification accuracies comparable to those of fingerprint recognizers. In these experiments, only frontal face images taken under controlled lighting conditio...

Local Relation Map: A Novel Illumination Invariant Face Recognition Approach

In this paper, a novel illumination invariant face recognition approach is proposed. Different from most existing methods, an additive term as noise is considered in the face model under varying illuminations in addition to a multiplicative illumination term. High frequency coefficients of Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) are discarded to eliminate the effect caused by nois...
